There’s Soy in My Coffee

While grocery shopping this weekend I picked up some soy milk. I thought it tasted pretty good and was curious to see how it would do in a cup of coffee. Here is my ranking or milk products in coffee from first to worst:

  • Heavy Cream: God Lord, heavy cream in coffee is amazing. All that fat makes your cup ridiculously silky. The only down side is that repeated use will shoot your cholesterol levels through the roof and result in a heart attack. There’s always a price to pay for greatness.
  • Half & Half: When Mr. Cream and Ms. Whole Milk get together a little half and half is the result of their indiscretion. My father-in-law loves this stuff. Not as bad as heavy cream but still makes me feel like I am killing myself.
  • Heavy D: A.k.a whole milk is a solid third choice. While it will not make your coffee as rich as the preceeding two choices it will do quite nicely.
  • 2% Milk: This is what is usually in my fridge. I think it gives the coffee some creaminess without making me feel insanely guilty about my arteries.
  • 1% Milk: 1% milk is horrible in coffee. My aunts up north always have 1% milk in their refridgerator and it is equally bad in tea.
  • Skim Milk: Why bother? You might as well pour water in your coffee since I imagine the effects would be similar. I’d rather drink mine black than pour this sorry excuse for milk into it.

This morning before heading out the door I made a pot of coffee. I poured the coffee into my cup and added a spoonful of sugar. I then added some soy milk and took a sip. It was decent. Of course it was not heavy cream, but it was a lot better than skim milk. It is kind of like 2% milk.

I would buy another carton of soy milk since it passed the coffee test. I also may try some rice milk based upon a comment left by betme.

Have you tried fat-free creamer? That’s what I use now since I was addicted to the full fat stuff before.

Before you know it, you’ll be eating soy chicken patties!

^ Whoa now, let’s not get too crazy as I really like chicken! What is a soy chicken patty? It is a mix of soy and real chicken or is it just soy with some chicken flavoring?

May have to do a post with FAQ about soy patties.

Why do they put soy in everything? I know that it has almost all the vitamins and minerals the body needs. But God, why not giving a chance to all the people who are allergic to soy?

I spend time and time looking for something to buy and find nothing, since everything has soy in it.
