Our First Sonogram

This afternoon we went to North Florida Women’s Care for our second pre-natal appointment.  Becks’ momma came along with us and we all got to meet Dr. Friall.  She is a very nice lady and made Becks feel very comfortable.  I know she is going to take care of Becks and she calmed her fears about having a baby.

After the examination came the most exciting part, we got to see the first pictures of our baby! Dr. Friall squirted some gell below Becks’ belly button and as soon as she pressed the sonogram to her we could see the baby wiggling around!  At one point it covered its face with its little hands and another time it looked like it was dancing from side to side.  I was watching Becks’ face as she looked at the screen and saw her tear up.  I was grinning from ear to ear and was so excited.  That baby is going to be loved.

Dr. Friall said our baby measured 3.3 centimeters and that it looked like it was developing right on schedule.  She printed out a bunch of pictures for us and wrote “Hi Mom and Dad!” on them for us and “Hi Grandma!” for Charlotte.  It was so cool seeing the baby.

We also got to hear our baby’s heartbeat for the first time too! It was beating 170 times per minute and Dr. Friall said as the baby continued to grow its heartbeat would slow down.   She also said that guessing the sex based upon the heartbeat was an old wives tale.  She told us that she did not want to know what she was having when she had her child, and thought she was having a little boy because the heartbeat was always under 140.  Turns out she had a little girl.

Seeing the baby today made the pregnancy real for both Becks me.  Up until then Becks said it felt like she had the flu, but after this afternoon she was excited.  Today was an amazing experience I will never forget!
