Jackson Got the Mouse
When I went to bed last night Jackson (our 3/4 Jack Russell Terrier, 1/4 Rat Terrier mixed super dog) was sitting in front of the kitchen sink cabinets staring straight ahead with his ears perked up. This is the place where I first found evidence of a mouse and had set one of the mouse traps. I called him to come to bed, but he continued to sit in front of the cabinet for sometime.
This morning I opened the cabinet door to see if I had caught the mouse. Unlike the other three times when I check it this time the mouse trap was still baited. I decided that the mouse traps I bought from Winn-Dixie were not going to work so I picked it up and tossed it into the trash.
I also decided that since Jackson was very happy the kitchen sink cabinet door was open I would let him sniff around. I was helping him out, moving the various canisters around when hiding behind the Lysol I saw the mouse. Jackson smelled it before I saw it and was on the mouse in an instant. He shot forward, killed it and then carried it under the dining room table.
Jackson comes from a long line of dogs that were bred to kill rodents and I was proud of him. I told him that he was a good dog and then crawled under the table to grab the mouse which was covered in dog saliva and still twitching. I felt bad for the little field mouse, but he was where he was not supposed to be (in our house), and had to go.
I then swapped the dead mouse for a piece of cheese which made Jackson very happy. He was smiling and wagging his little tail as he accompanied me to the garbage can to dispose of the mouse.
Next time we have mouse issues I will forgo the trap and unleash Jackson and Molly on the unsuspecting rodent. I am now going to head off to Lowe’s to buy some spray insulation to seal up the hole and prevent any future visits from mice.
