The Coronation of the One

2008 August 28

I have avoided watching the Democratic Convention in an attempt to keep myself from becoming physically ill.  I am not sure that I could have stomached the hypocrisy of watching Hilliary, Slick Willie and Joe Biden fawn over Barack Hussein Obama after months of mercilessly trashing him.

However, despite my better judgment I tuned into watch the One deliver his acceptance speech.  The evening began with a video biography about Obama’s life.  It told the touching story of how his mom had big dreams for little Barry and pushed him in his formative years by waking him up at 4:30 a.m. to go over his lessons. (Who would do that to a six year old? Are first grade topics that hard to grasp?)   It also focused on the contributions his grandparents made to his life (despite being typical white people) and how he shunned corporate America to fight for people in the South Side of Chicago. One thing I found rather interesting was that after seeing very little of his mother or grandparents during the campaign their photos were strewn thought out the slickly edited montage.

After the conclusion of this nauseating piece of propaganda the Chosen One strolled onto stage before an adoring crowd of 85,000 people.  He then launched into his message aided by his beloved teleprompter.   Here are my reactions to some of what Barack stated:

  • Obama seems to think that we are in the midst of a combination of the Great Depression and World War II.  Things are so horrible and unless we vote for “change” we’re all doomed just like poor Etta Munson.
  • Where the beef Barack? The speech was filled with nicely written prose but failed to concretely lay out his plan for “change”.  We’d all like to be energy independent in 10 years and I also would have liked to play for the Boston Red Sox but wishing and actually making something a reality are two very different things.
  • As long as you didn’t think about what he was actually saying his speech could be tolerated.  Once you actually started to think about the consequences of what he was saying things got scary and it became clear that this man is out of his league.  Rather than talking about how bad the economy is he should have read the latest economic statistics that showed GDP growth of 3.3% in the second quarter.
  • Michelle Obama is an angry lady.  Every time the camera cut to her she had a miserable, disgusted look on her face.  If Barry somehow wins the election she is destined to become our most rage filled First Lady to occupy the White House.
  • Despite all his talk of being a “new kind of politician” with a “new kind of politics” Obama is no different than every other slimy politician to crawl out of Chicago.  The most telling sign of this was his willingness to bash President Bush and choose Joe “Foot in Mouth” Biden as his running mate.  You want change? Biden is a liberal and has been in the Senate since little Barry was 11 years old. The only kind America will get with this ticket will be the wrong kind.

I am sure I am in the minority but unlike the people who wept following the conclusion of Obama’s speech I was not impressed.   I also do not think it is in the league of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream Speech” which was given on this day 45 years ago in Washington D.C.  Aside from the two sharing a date Obama’s lacked substance while MLK’s was truly inspiring.

Yes, the socialist spoke and is a TRAITOR to freedom.

I would not brand Obama a traitor but I do not agree with the majority of his positions. Obama is just another slick politician who told the liberals in the crowd what they wanted to hear.

I managed to not watch any of it directly. Dolphins were playing. (shame on me!)
I did see the part following his speech and was struck by the decadent stage props and fireworks. What’s up with that?
It’s like he just won the superbowl.
Maybe I’ve never seen a Convention before.
Just a bunch of lying windbags.

When I have heard him talking, I’ve heard nothing but : Change, Change, Change…..

You did not miss much! The Dolphins? How about those Jaguars? It’s time to switch once you settle down in North Florida! :)

Government needs to stop spending more money. Now.

    I’m for isolation.

Are you a Ron Paul supporter scienkoptic?

I’m a taxpayer, first and foremost.
As a lay-person, I would assume that our taxes go to pay for things such as the Police action and War in Iraq.

I’m all for a good war. I think we jumped into Iraq when we should have focused on Afghanistan.

I paid multiple thousands of dollars last april to the IRS.

I’ve scanned over Ron Paul’s positions. Some I agree on. One thing I have noticed is that he’s got principles and it seems that historically he’s stuck with them.

Did I vote for him? No. Will I ? No.

We’ve (the US) have managed to piss of a lot of more people in the last eight years: Russia, Middle East, Etc.

I believe in Fiscal Conservatism and Environmentalism. Those two things don’t seem to jibe real good with the current Republican party line.

So when are you going to become a Braves or Devil Ray fan?
You need to dump those Lousy Red Sox! :)

I also am a fiscal conservative and care about the environment and feel comfortable with the GOP. It kind of makes us Theodore Rousevelt’s kind of Republicans. :D

My wife is a huge Braves fan and I have adopted them as my NL team. I even have a Braves hat and I bought my little son a tiny Braves shirt when we were in Atlanta. However, I can never abandon Red Sox Nation!

When I mean good, I don’t mean popular.
    Al-qaeda was definitively in Afghanistan.

I still haven’t seen much proof that they were in Iraq before we destabilized it.

The WOMD argument doesn’t seem to float. We negotiated with North Korea to shut down their reactors and we’ve put up with Pakistan proliferating technology to other unfriendly countries. Why be selective?

We could have sold our soul to Hussien instead and gained a worthwhile ally. Now we’ve got Pakistan and they’re just a bedroom for the Taliban and Al-qaeda.

Things are definetly going to get messier before they get better. I hope with the new President in Pakistan they remain our ally. Otherwise we’ll be looking at an even worse situation that we had in Afghanistan due to their confirmed possession of nuclear weapons.
