Cleaning, Picking Up Sticks and Mowing

2009 July 12

Today was a very busy day.  After sleeping in until 8 o’clock I got up, made a pot of coffee and started helping Becks clean the house.  While I had been catching an extra 2 1/2 hours of sleep she straightened up the living room and dusted.  Once the caffeine reached my brain and I was functioning at a reasonable level I swept the floors and then swiffered them to get up the last nasty bits of dirt and dog hair.

When it came time to mop the kitchen and bathroom floors I decided to try the steam mop Becks’ dad had given to us on Saturday.  He said that he had tried it once and not been happy with the results.  I read the instruction booklet, filled up the resevoir with water and fired it up.  Within second it was ready to emit a hot blast of steam onto our dirty (for our house at least) floors.

I was skeptical at first but after mopping the back of the kitchen noticed that the floor felt very clean and that the mop pad was picking up a lot of grime that our other mop missed.  It worked great on the kitchen floor and also on Becks’ bathroom floor that is tiled.  I was very happy with the results and will be using it again in the future once we launder the mop head.

As I was winding up my portion of the house cleaning Steve and Charlotte stopped by to visit with Mason.  When they left Becks and I made lunch and tackled some other smaller projects around the house as it was sweltering outside.  The heat began to subside a bit around 3 o’clock when shade began to filter into the back and side yards.  I decided that this presented an opportunity to mow the lawn and after filling the wheel barrow with 4 loads of sticks and other debris that had fallen in the storm last Sunday got down to the business of mowing around 4:30 p.m.

The new mulching blade I put on our lawnmower this past week did a great job .  It took me a little over 2 1/2 hours to mow the entire yard and the grass looked great when I was finished.  Hopefully the weather will hold out and tomorrow night I will be able to sweep and edge.

After a quick dinner I did a couple loads of dishes in the sink and helped Becks feed and bathe Mason.  By the time he was in bed it was 9 o’clock and we were ready for bed.
