I Almost Lost My Wedding Band

March 16, 2008

This afternoon while Becks and the girls were giving Jami a baby shower Jeremiah, Woody and myself ate chicken wings, drank beer and watched college basketball. Jeremiah owns a chicken restaurant, Maryland Fried Chicken in Thomasville, Georgia, and hooked us up with a tinfoil pan full of hot wings. The wings were very good and had just the right amount of heat.

As we were watching basketball I was sitting on their new couch playing with my wedding band. I have a bad habit of taking it off and spinning it around on my fingers.   While I was doing this I dropped my ring down the side of their couch, between the cushion and the arm. I stuck my hand down to retrieve it but the ring slid further down. Woody could not reach it and I was pretty sure our efforts had pushed it into the bottom of the couch.

We took the cushions off the couch and tipped it onto one end. Jeremiah got a steak knife and was preparing to slice into the black fabric on the bottom of the couch when Jami walked in. She asked what we were doing and I explained the situation as Jeremiah made the first cut. It did not get us into the right compartment of the couch so a second cut was needed. Jami was not pleased and said she did not want the couch to look ghetto. Jeremiah said not to worry, and that it was only a couch as I made the third and final cut.

The couch surgery was successful and I was able to retrieve my wedding ring. I am pretty sure Jami was slightly angry at us for cutting apart the bottom of her couch although it does not look too bad.  I feel really bad about the couch and offered to sew up the bottom for her. I am not sure when I’ll be asked to their house again, but if I am, I will leave my wedding ring firmly planted on my hand.

    Mike –

Don’t worry. I told Jami I’d repair the couch knowing she would forget about it and she did. You can’t even tell we did anything to it. But after you left she did bitch me out quite severely. She’s just a little hormonal right now with the whole pregnancy thing. At least that’s what I keep telling myself.

I’ll help you repair it if you want. We could get one of those iron on patches to cover up the hole. I think Becks would have strangled me if the situation was reversed!

Mike, I could KILL you for this!

I think Jami feels the same way.
