Drink It Like You Stole It; Jim Beam Distillers Series

June 29, 2010

When I walked into the Sam’s Club Liquor Store a display of Jim Beam Distillers Series was sitting in a prominent position in the middle of the floor.  I picked up a bottle and looked it over. It was a nice warm, rich brown color and noted that it had been aged 7 years.  I had heard that Jim Beam had released it on a limited basis in late 2008/early 2009 on a limited basis at around $20.00 a bottle.  Sam’s must have robbed the distillery as they were selling a 750 ml bottle for $9.97 plus tax.  I decided to pick one up to give it a try, and I am happy I did.

The bourbon has a nose of burnt oak, grain sweetness and vanilla.  The palate consist of vanilla, honey, and oak.  It is very smooth. The finish is smooth and long with just a hint of spice. This is a very nice bourbon.

Overall Jim Beam Distillers Series is a very well balanced bourbon.  At $20.00 it would have been a very good purchase and for $9.97 it is an absolute steal.

The only explanation I can think of as to why Sam’s Club is selling it so cheap is that they must be clearing out the last of their stock.  Assuming that is the case I will have to pick up another bottle to before they sell out of this bourbon.
