Deep Dish Deliciousness at Marco’s Pizza

I was getting ready to leave for the day when I got a text from Becky asking if we could have pizza for dinner.  I asked her where she wanted me to get it from and she had no preference.  I mentioned that there was a pizza place near my office and she said to give them a shot. 

Marco’s Pizza is located in the same shopping plaza as Miyako on the corner of Thomasville Road and Bradfordville Road behind the CVS.  Their website touts their company as the fastest growing pizza chain in the United States and they currently have locations in 18 states.

The Tallahassee location is a small restaurant with an apparent emphasis on carry out orders.  A few tables occupy the front and a flat screen television is mounted on the left wall.  A small counter is at the back.  I went up and gave the girl my name.  My pizza and bread sticks were ready and after a quick swipe of my debit card I was off.

I was worried that he pizza would get cold on the drive back to Monticello.  To make matters worse I got behind an elderly woman in a purple Chrysler Sebring on Crump Road going 40 miles per hour.  Thankfully the combination of my jacket and heat on the floorboard kept things at a decent temp.

I walked in the house and popped open the box containing the cheesy bread.  I pulled one off, took a bite and was pleasantly surprised.  Instead of being a piece of cardboard like some chain’s bread sticks Marco’s was soft, chewy and had a good amount of cheese on top. 

Next up was the pizza.  Becky and I have differing views on what good pizza is. She loves deep dish while I like prefer New York style.  I opened the box and was impressed with what I saw.  The deep dish pizza had a nice crust on the sides of each piece and the toppings were nicely arranged. It look like care had been put into making the pie and I appreciated that. 

We made plates and took our seats at the table.  Mason dug in while we said grace and gave us his version of 2 thumbs up, an “Mmmmmm!” I took a bite and was impressed.  The sauce was not too salty, the toppings (pepperoni, mushrooms and onions) all played well together and the crust was crispy on the edges and chewy underneath. 

It was good pizza.  In fact, it was probably the best pizza I have ever had from a national chain.  Marco’s blows Dominos, Pizza Hut and Papa John’s out of the water. Next time Becky has a craving for deep dish pizza I will definitely be headed back to Marco’s.
