Miss Julia has Pneumonia

January 23, 2011

This morning Miss Julia was not feeling better and she was still a little pokey and clingy.  Becky said she felt warm and I took her temperature.  It was 100.5 degrees F.  She wanted me to take her to urgent care in Tallahassee since she had been running a fever on and off since Wednesday.

I called CHP and after speaking with a nurse they gave us an appointment for 7:00 p.m.  Miss Julia crawled around the house during the afternoon taking advantage of her brother’s absence (he was at his meme’s house).  After playing for a little while she was whiny, ate a bottle and fell asleep.

We left for Tallahassee a little after 6 o’clock and upon arriving at the CHP Urgent Care Clinic checked in.  The waiting room was about 1/4 full and while we waited to be called back Miss Julia drank a bottle, played with her little pig and flirted with a grandpa.

When we got back to the examination room the nurse took Miss Julia’s temperature.  It was 101.0 degrees F.  She took down some information about what was going on and a few minutes later we saw the doctor.  She looked in Jules’ ears, nose and listened to her lungs.  She ordered a flu test, a strep throat test and a chest x-ray.

The strep throat test was negative. The flu test was negative.  The x-rays revealed Miss Julia had pneumonia.  I was very concerned when the doctor gave me her diagnosis and asked her a bunch of questions including why it was not seen on Thursday.  She said it could have developed in as short as 24 hours.  She gave me some more information on pneumonia and then a nurse came in and gave her a large shot of antibiotics.  Miss Julia screamed.

She calmed down a few minutes later and the grape popsicle played a part in getting a smile back on her face.   We waited 20 more minutes to make sure Jules did not have a reaction to the antibiotic and then we packed up and headed home.

The staff at CHP was very friendly and they took great care of our little girl.  I hope that the antibiotics help her feel better and that she is back to her normal self in a couple of days.

Thanks Tyler! She is feeling a little better today. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in this afternoon.

How’s baby #3? I’m gonna give you a call on my way home to see how things are going.
