Girls in Pearls: Miss Julia’s 1st Birthday Party

May 7, 2011

Today was Miss Julia’s 1st birthday party.  It represented the culmination of a year of planning and I am pretty sure Becky knew the theme, started collecting jars, and made mental notes of what she wanted the cake to look like before Jules was even born.

The party was held in a local park and this morning Becky, Angie and I went over to set things up.  We arranged the tables and set up the chairs.  When my mom and dad arrived we hung up three puffy paper things in the gazebo that Becky assured me “were all the rage at little girl’s birthday parties.” I took her word for it as we suspended them on clear fishing line.  When we were finished the gazebo looked very nice thanks to her.

The morning flew by and before I knew it we were loading the cars up and heading to the park to set out food, arrange the other decorations and await the arrival of the guest.  While Becky moved food from the kitchen to the gazebo and filled up the candy jars I sliced hors d’œuvre and assembled ham biscuits.  I also helped with the lemonade and figured out how to stop the large glass jar it was in from leaking.  When everything was ready Becky arranged the tables.  They looked beautiful and the entire party looked like it had been professionally planned and set-up.

The party was wonderful (save for one hic-cup) and everyone had a good time.  The kids played on the swing set and jungle gym while the adults chatted under the live oaks and ate.  The cake and cupcakes (made by our friend Kim from Tupelo’s Bakery) were a huge hit and were delicious.  The rest of the food also turned out great and by the end of the party not much was left over.

It was also nice to see Charlotte and Bub (and family), Gerri and Donovan, Becca and McKenzie, the Wilders, my grandparents, the Reams family, Tamara and her girls Miranda and Morgan, Jami and Jackson, Robin, Joe, Rachel and her 3 kids, the Hoffmeisters and the Lloyd clan!  I was very happy so many people came for Miss Julia and I hope they had a good time!

Overall, Becky did an amazing job putting the party together.  I have never seen a 1st birthday party that was so meticulously thought out and fear what she has planned for Miss Julia in the future.
