Brewsday Tuesday: Pilners Urquell

June 14, 2011

First had this beer back in college when one of my TKE brother, Steve Piche, gave me a bottle and tossed the Natty light I was pounding in the trash can.  I remember thinking this beer was amazing and picked up a 6-pack at Winn Dixie while grabbing some things for dinner.

Name: Pilnser Urquell

Brewed by: Plzensky Prazdroj, a. s.

Style/ABV: Czech Pilsener / 4.4% ABV

Appearance:  A deep golden color with a nice two finger head on top which slowly disipated.  Lacing was non-existant as I drank this beer.

Smell: Bitter hop aroma with some sweet bread-like undertones.

Taste: Its a pilsener so hop bitterness is first and foremost.  It has a earthy/grassy/hay taste and is balaced with the slight sweetness of the malt.

Mouthfeel: A very smooth beer that has a medium body.

Overall: Not as amazing as I remember it being back at UNH.  There are better pilseners out there but I would not hesitate grabbing another 6-pack if it was on sale.

Final Grade: B
