Independence, Homemade Ice Cream and Fireworks

July 7, 2011

This year the 4th of July was a pretty laid back affair.  Mason and I made peach ice cream last night and this afternoon Charlotte came over.  We grilled out and relaxed in the back yard under the big oak tree.  It was an All-American afternoon full of hamburgers, watermelon and ice cream.

The highlight of the afternoon for Mason and Julia was splashing around in their super cool new pool that Becky got for them. Not only does it have a slide it has a palm tree in the middle that water comes out of!

I blew the pool up and wished that the air compressor was still working.  The two hand pumps I had were useless and the tabs at the end made taking it up to the gas station a non-option. By the time it was inflated I felt light headed.  Thankfully there was a cold beer waiting for me.

Later that evening Becky insisted on taking Mason to see fireworks.  I was hesitant and thought he would be scared by the loud booms.  Charlotte drove with us up to the high school field where we sat waiting for the show to start.

It was the first time in about 4 years that our litle town had a show.  The community got together and raised the money to pay for the fireworks since the city and county did not have the funds.

At it got darker Mason said it was dark and scary.  He covered his head with the blanket we brought along.  When the first fire works shot into the sky he pulled himself close to me and told me he wanted to go home to momma and sissy.  I loaded him into his car seat and made the short trip back to the house.  When we pulled up he ran in the house and jumped into Becky’s arms.
