Brewsday Tuesday: Harpoon Oktoberfest

October 11, 2011

When I finally discovered craft beer towards the end of college Harpoon’s offerings could usually be found in my fridge.  In keeping with the October theme I picked up a bottle of Harpoon Oktoberfest.  Prost!

Name:  Harpoon Oktoberfest

Brewed by:  Harpoon Brewery

Style/ABV: Märzen / Oktoberfest / 5.5%

Appearance: Pours and appetizing rich reddish copper color with a lightly toasted Wonderbread colored head.  The head slowly dissipates leaving some lacing behind.

Smell: Malt, caramel, vanilla which melts with some mild hop freshness in the background.  Very pleasent aroma.

Taste: Carmelly malt sweetness with a quick punch of hops freshness.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: Yum. This is a very drinkable fall beer without the pumpkin gimmick that is perfect on a crisp North Florida afternoon.  Well done Harpoon Brewery!

Final Grade: B+

The ABC near me (Thomasville and Betton Rd.) has surprisingly few individual beers for sale. I may need to look elsewhere; I want to try all these!

This is a good beer, I think you will enjoy it. You can take a beer from any six pack at ABC and buy it as a single! That is why it is my fav place in town to pick up beers. Plus, it’s relatively close to where I work.
