Brewsday Tuesday: Sierra Nevada Tumbler Autumn Brown Ale

November 8, 2011

Autumn has arrived and colder weather is starting to filter into North Florida.  This past weekend we lit the fire place for the first time of the season.  There is nothing nicer than drinking a good beer and reading a book at the end of a long and sometimes crazy day.  With a bit of crispness in the air I decided to sample Sierra Nevada’s Brown Ale.

Name: Sierra Nevada Tumbler Autumn Brown Ale

Brewed by:  Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

Style/ABV: American Brown Ale / 5.5%

Appearance: Pours a dark walnut color with a creamy two fingered tan head.

Smell: Toasted biscuits, malt sweetness and some nuttiness.

Taste: Mellow malt flavor with some caramel notes that finishes with a slight hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium body with moderate to high carbonation.

Overall: A very good brown ale that hit the spot on an early Autumn evening.

Final Grade: B+

*I drank the 2011 version but by the time I posted this review had recycled of the bottle. A picture of the 2010 version from RateBeer.com will have to stand in for my actual bottle.

I drank this a couple weeks ago and really liked it. The review I’d read before suggested it with some kind of dessert but I didn’t have anything except apple cinnamon nutrigrain bars but that went really well with it!
