Fall Garden Update: Week 10

November 14, 2011

The fall garden is coming to a close.  After 70 growing days the only plants still doing anything of note are the green beans.  I picked a couple off of them last week and will pluck the rest off sometime this week.

The cucumber plant got damaged by frost last week and is not looking good.  The carrots never recovered from being displaced by Sadie.  The beets are depressingly small. The poor quality of the soil is hurting yields and it is a lesson I will not forget moving forward.

Once the beans are harvested I will probably cut the one bunch of collard greens I successfully grew, and the call it a season.  I am looking forward to planting some tomatoes in February but will need to add plenty of organic matter to my bed before setting the plants in the ground.
