Shifting Focus to New Hampshire

January 6, 2012

The Iowa Caucus was held last Tuesday.  Mitt Romney (hereinafter referred to as “Mittens”) defeated Rick Santorum (hereinafter referred to as “the Vest) by 8 measley votes.  Before Mittens and the Vest gave their own versions of victory speeches Newt Gingrich took to the stage.  Newt was angry and he alluded to revenge.  Mittens is going to have to watch out as he goes forward.

Iowa as John Huntman reminded us picks corn while the Granite State picks Presidents and attntion has shifted to New Hampshire.  Mittens currently has a big lead with Ron Paul, Gingrich, Huntman and the Vest all grouped around 11%.  New Hampshire is a pretty squishy Republican state and I expect Mittens as the former Governor of Massachusetts will easily win.

The fight for second will be much more interesting.  Evangelicals are a small number of people in NH and this will hurt the Vest.  Newt has been pummeled by negative ads and will fade.  I think either Paul or Huntsman will finish second.  I think the two debates scheduled for this weekend could determine their order, and it will be interesting to see how things play out.
