Happy Birthday Elvis

January 8, 2012

Becky loves Elvis. I’m talking head to Graceland on your 30th birthday kind of love.  She working to turn our kids into little Elvis fans, and keeps a couple of CDs in Miss Julia’s stereo.  Sometimes we’ll hear Hound Dog, and find them dancing in her room.

Today was Elvis’ birthday.  Becky pulled out her Paula Deen: Celebrations cookbook.  It actually has an Elvis birthday party recipes section.  Seriously.  On the menu was chicken fried steak, cabbage, rice, gravy, biscuits and banana pudding.  I knew she meant business when she started getting ready to cook, and sent me to Winn-Dixie for a box of Nilla wafers.

While the kids bounded around the yard in 70 degree weather (under the watchful eye of their Meme), we browned steaks, chopped and made pudding from scratch.  When everything was done we sat down to eat.  Everything tasted good, and Miss Julia destroyed her cabbage and chicken fried steak.  Happy Birthday Elvis, wherever you are!
