Brewsday Tuesday: Shiner Bock

January 24, 2012

Name: Shiner Bock

Brewed by:  Spoetzel Brewery

Style/ABV: Bock / 4.4%

Appearance: Pours a deep amber color with a one finger white head that quickly disappears.

Smell: Very muted malts and grains, with zero hops. There is not a whole lot going on here.

Taste: Muted sweetness with macro-lager characteristics, finishes with some dryness.

Mouthfeel: Highly carbonated with a light mouth feel.  Very drinkable.

Overall: This beer bills itself as a bock, but comes off as a less sweeter version of a macro-lager.  Overall, it taste like Budweiser, but is more expensive and from Texas.  Very disappointed in my purchase, and although easy to put back, not worth the $8.99 per 6-pack price point.  At least the bottle and the cap with the ram looked nice.

Final Grade: D+
