Brewsday Tuesday: Abita Mardi Gras Bock

January 31, 2012

Name: Abita Mardi Gras Bock

Brewed by:  Abita Brewing Company

Style/ABV: Bock / 6.5%

Appearance: Pours a rich amber color with a two finger cream head that slowly disappears.

Smell: Malts and caramel tones. Very enticing.

Taste: Sweet malts, caramels with some light hops duing the finish.  The caramel is the real star and makes me wish I had more on hand.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: I was looking for an American bock to redeem the style and this one came through.  It is full of malty goodness and is a very easy drinking beer.  I need to pick up some more before Abita ceases production for the year.

Final Grade: B+
