Spring Garden Update: Week 10

May 14, 2012

We picked our first tomatoes from the garden this week! Two better boys ripened up nicely and we plucked the first one on Sunday.  I have not had a homegrown tomato in years.  It was delicious! Becky remarked that it was a lot sweeter than the ones you buy at the store and I agreed.  I ate mine plain, while Becky opted to have hers as part of a Caprese salad.

Our zucchini plant is also continuing to produce.  We got another two large squashes this week.  That brings the total to six and it is still loaded with flowers.  The yellow squash plant also produced another small squash.

Our current garden is going very well, but I now have a problem.  I need to plant our summer vegetables (eggplant; okra; basil; and peppers) by the end of May.  I do not think the current vegetables will be done by then.  I really need to start thinking about building a second raised bed.
