Brewsday Tuesday: Dos Equis Lager Especial
This is the second beer that was included in the Cinco de Mayo mix pack from Winn Dixie. Green bottle beer usually means there is a disaster inside, and popping the I feared for the worst. Bottoms up!
Name: Dos Equis Lager Especial
Brewed by: Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma, S.A. de C.V.
Location: Monterrey, Mexico
Style/ABV: American Adjunct Lager / 4.3%
Appearance: Pours a clear yellow with a sad one finger off-white head. Zero head retention and zero lacing.
Smell: Corn and cooked grains with no trace of hops.
Taste: It taste like it smells with corn and grains dominating. Some mild hope bitterness is present at the finish.
Mouthfeel: Thin with high carbonation. Dry at the end with some crispness.
Overall: Overall, Dos Equis marketing is better than the beer. Despite its shortcomings, the beer was highly drinkable on a warm North Florida afternoon. It was also better than the Tecate I choked down for last week’s review.
Final Grade: C-
