Tropical Storm Debby

June 24, 2012

Tropical Storm Debby has been meandering around the Gulf of Mexico and frustrating forecasters for the past couple of days.  Some models had it tracking towards Texas whiles other took it into Louisiana.  Florida has been in a severe drought and quietly I hoped it would track to the east and fill up our rivers and lakes.

Eventually Jim Cantore was dispatched to Panama City, Florida and it was go time.  I was happy Hurricane Jim was not camping out in St. Marks but as they day passed the “landfall” kept moving east.  Soon it was looking like St. George island was in the cross hairs.

Today we decided to take the kids to see Brave.  We were running late and instead of going our for breakfast we hit the Krispy Kreme drive-thru.  While ordering the skies opened up and it started to rain.  It rained while we ate our donuts; watched the movie; drove back to Monticello; and lumped out for the rest of the day.

The bands kept coming in and the rain was steady into the night.  The forecast now says it will land in Steinhatchee, Florida.  I am not sure how much rain we got today, but the kids pool that was empty is now overflowing and it is about 8 inches deep.  Flooding is going to be a concern in lower areas, but thankfully we are on high ground in Monticello.

*Note: By the time it stopped raining on Tuesday morning we received approximately 11.50 inches of rain in Monticello.  Goodbye drought!
