Brewsday Tuesday: Jai Alai IPA

July 3, 2012

two weeks Liam’s of Thomasville is holding a Cask Ale Night featuring Cigar City Brewing’s Maduro Oatmeal Brown Ale.  While cruising through the beer with the upcoming event on my mind I saw several of the brewery’s offerings, and decided to grab a six pack of their Jai Alai IPA.  Prost!

Name: Jai Alai IPA

Brewed by: Cigar City Brewing

Location: Tampa, FL

Style/ABV: American IPA / 7.5%

Appearance: Pours a beautiful deep copper color with two finger cream colored head which slowly fades leaving a thin layer on top. A good amount of lacing present as the beers goes into my belly.

Smell: Light caramel malts with sweet tropical fruit notes from the hops.  A touch of spice is also noted.

Taste: Opens with the sweet caramel malts before exploding into tropical fruits of pineapple, mango and melon.  Closes with great citrus notes of grapefruit with a nice amount of bitterness.  There is no taste of alcohol despite it weighing in at 7.5%. Amazing.

Mouthfeel: Very crisp, medium with medium carbonation.

Overall: I love this beer.  It is one of my favorite IPAs and I am thrilled it comes from Florida.  Drinking local never tasted so good!

Final Grade: A
