An Observation on the 4th of July

July 5, 2012

Let’s be clear about one thing, I love America, and the 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. It is full of grilled meat, happy children, and freedom.  It is a day to celebrate, drinks lots of beer, and then set off highly explosive incendiary devices in a alcool haze. ‘Murica!

This year’s celebration was severely curtailed by falling on a Wednesday (aka the worst day ever for any holiday).  Hump Day is holiday Purgatory.  No employer is going to give their worker bees two days off to link the 4th up to either weekend.  The result is a lonely island of muted celebration rather than the jovial day John Adams intended.

Yesterday started out feeling like a Saturday, full of carefree happiness.  By late afternoon Sunday had arrived. The fireworks put me in a little better mood, but I still had to go to bed early due to work. Meh.  I am happy that next year the 4th will be on a more suitable day.
