Brewsday Tuesday: Sierra Nevada Summerfest

July 10, 2012

The United States has been in the midst of a miserable heatwave.  While it has not been as hot in North Florida as other parts of the nation it still has been a sauna.  This weekend I was grilling and needed something to keep me from passing out in the heat. Sierra Nevada’s Summerfest was called into duty and below are my thoughts.

Name: Sierra Nevada Summerfest

Brewed by: Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

Location: Chico, California

Style/ABV: CzechPilsener / 5.0%

Appearance: Pours a clear straw yellow with a three finger puffy white head.  Decent head retention with zero lacing.

Smell: Bready malts mixed with fresh cut grass and a hint of citrus.

Taste: Sweet malts at the beginning, moves into earthy flavors and closes with a nice hop bite.  Very refreshing.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, medium body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: This is a very good summer beer.  It is crisp, very refreshing, and kept me from bursting into flames while grilling on our 100 degree patio.

Final Grade: A

I drank the heck out of this beer last summer; it’s awesome!

Summerfest, good. Bursting into flames, bad.

Agreed! If we didn’t have an umbrella providing shade I would have been toast. Literally.
