Portabellas Do Not Taste Like Steak
Planning a menu while simultaneously filling our cart we began to run out of dinner ideas. Becky suggested we try a recipe she saw while watching a cooking show, portabella mushroom “burgers.” We found a pack of two and tossed them into the buggy.
Tonight we decided to fire up the grill and toss the portabella mushrooms on for dinner. The recipe called for a balsamic vinaigrette to be brushed onto the mushrooms and then allow them to marinate for 15 minutes. While we were grilling Mason asked, “why are we making mushroom? Where are the hamburgers?” Good question little buddy, I thought as I put the mushrooms onto a plate. The mushrooms were grilled for 4-5 minutes per side; tossed onto a toasted bun; and topped with rosemary Greek yogurt, tomatoes, and red onions. A side of Asian broccoli slaw completed the meal.
Becky and I sampled the mushroom “burgers” and looked at each other. She did not like them, and after putting on a good face I agreed. It was not horrible, but would have tasted better sauteed in red wine and next to a ribeye.
