Pancakes and a Conversation with Little Man

August 9, 2012

Tonight we decided to have breakfast for dinner.  I popped some bacon in the oven and got the ingredients for pancakes out of the cabinet as little man strolled into the kitchen.

“Daddy, can I help you make pancakes?” he said.

“Sure.” I said.

“But daddy, there is no place for me to stand.” he said.

“Give me one second.” I said as I cleared a place.

I lifted him up onto the counter and started to pour the dry ingredients into the bowl.  He patiently waited for me to hand him the baking powder and he poured in two table spoons.  The wet ingredients followed and soon we were mixing it with a whisk.  I poured the first batch onto the griddle and he called me back over to the counter where he was sitting.  He grabbed my face in his hands and looked at me with familiar looking hazel eye.

“Dad, you make the best pancakes.” he said.

He gave me a kiss and then asked if he could watch Disney Jr.  I helped him down and watched him race into the bedroom to wait for the bacon to finish cooking.
