Preparing for Clemson: Tales of the Tailgate

September 21, 2012

This is Clemson week.  While Coach Fisher prepares the Noles to face the Tigers on the field, I have been preparing to tailgate my face off on Saturday. This has consisted of planning a menu, organizing what we need to pull the tailgate off, and convincing my friends we need to be there five hours before kickoff.

Joe got us a parking pass for Lot 3, and this week we are going to go big.  Since neither of us had any of the necessary equipment I bought a 5′ long table and a 10′ x 10′ canopy complete with huge Seminole logo.  The canopy is going to be a must, otherwise the sun would kill us sometime before kickoff.

As for food, we are going to have roasted mojo pork, black beans, rice, Italian skewers, and Garnet & Gold gooey butter cake.  There will also be chips, dip, and booze.  In addition to beer we’re going to have Mojitos.  Joe is going to make a mint simple syrup, and I have a feeling things could get out of control. We must all remember to show poise and maintain!

So how did the “maintaining” work out for you?

I maintained pretty well. Things got kind of messy inside Doak when I decided to drain my flask of dark rum. The victory beer in the parking lot pushed me over the edge and earned me a ride home in the passenger seat. Throughout it all I did show great poise. 🙂
