Brewsday Tuesday: Fuggles IPA

September 25, 2012

The second beer in the Shipyard Brewing Co. sample pack is Fuggles IPA.  I remember drinking this at UNH once or twice.  I have no idea if I liked it.  Let’s see if I can refresh my recollection.  Bottoms up!

Name: Fuggles IPA

Brewed by: Shipyard Brewing Co.

Location: Portland, ME

Style/ABV: American IPA / 5.8%

Appearance: Dark copper with a two finger off white head and some lacing.

Smell: Piney resin with a bit of biscuit sweetness.  Very restrained.

Taste: Some piney hops and malt biscuit sweetness, though not much of either.

Mouthfeel: Medium with medium carbonation.

Overall: A very muted and restrained IPA.  The bitterness of the hops, and sweetness of the malts are there, just in relatively small quntities.  It was not a horrible beer, but there must have been a reason I went 12 years between purchases.

Final Grade: C+
