Kitchen Renovations: Operation Countertop

November 26, 2012

This morning the process of replacing our hideous gold Formica countertops and matching backsplash began.  I will not miss anything about it, as it was truly my least favorite thing about our house.  Before I left this morning I snapped a few pictures of our kitchen for historical purposes.

When I walked in the front door from work Rob had ripped out the old countertop and backsplash.  I was told the cabinets were not attached to the wall, but rather supported by the old back splash.  In order to keep the cabinets from falling down, he had to screw them into the wall and put several supports in at the top.  Oh the joys of owning an old home!

By the end of day one, Rob had cut the new butcher block countertops and drawn the pattern for the new sink.  Tomorrow he will cut out the hole for the sink and begin installing the new countertops and bead board backsplash.  I cannot wait to see what it looks like when it is completed.
