Operation Countertop: Mission Accomplished

November 29, 2012

Our new countertops are done! Rob Mulcahey owner of R & S Floors did an amazing job.  He tore out our old gold Formica back splash and countertops and installed beautiful cherry butcher block and bead board.  He also fit the dishwasher and stove into their proper places, so they no longer lean at a weird angle. Rob also made us 6 cutting boards out of the extra butcher block.

The finish of his work is top notch, and our kitchen looks completely refreshed.  I absolutely love the way it looks and would not hesitate to recommend Rob to anyone looking to have work done to their house in the Tallahassee area.  Rob also but in a new threshold in the back door to keep cold air from shooting under the door.  We had the sink piped by a plumber who also installed the faucet.  The sink in nice and deep, and the white color really pops.  Our next project will be getting new cabinet fronts, and we should have an estimate for that work shortly.

Thanks Bill! It was a mess before. Happy to have most of the house renovated. Only took us 7+ years! 🙂

We’re on a similar 7 year plan in our townhouse. lol. Hopefully in the spring / summer we’ll be able to have some tile put in our kitchen and bathrooms to finally be rid of the vinyl. 😛 After that, hopefully we’ll replace our appliances, then cabinets… so yeah like 10 years from now. lol

The butcher block countertops, are they treated so that they don’t get cut up from a stray knife?

They are sealed with mineral oil. I had the other cutting boards made from the extra wood to avoid cutting on the countertops. They are really easy to take care of. No chemicals (which I like), warm water, mild soap, and more oil. They will age nicely.
