Christmas in Downtown Monticello

December 7, 2012

Tonight was the annual Downtown Christmas celebration in Monticello.  Santa rode into town on the back of a firetruck and Dogwood street was full of stall selling everything from jewelry to handmade children’s clothes.  Street vendors sold food, and two jump houses provided the kids a place to burn off some energy.

With little man out of commission, I asked Miss Julia if she wanted to go visit Santa Claus. “Yeahhhhhhh!!! I want to see Santa!” she exclaimed as I tried to put her little pink boots with flowers on her squirming feet.  Once she was dressed we piled into the car with meme in tow.

This year Santa was set up near the florist under a large white tent. Pictures were being taken by our friend, Tammy Rabun, and cost $10 for two 4×6 photos.  She does really good work, and when it was Miss Julia’s turn she ran to Santa and hopped into his lap.  Tammy as her to smile and she hammed it up.  I cannot wait to see the finished product!

We then headed over to Tupelo’s for some soup. While we waited to order Miss Julia sang Jingle Bells and danced around in front of the counter.  It was adorable.  When we did order, I had a cup of Kim’s chicken and sausage gumbo along with a Sam Adam’s Chocolate Bock.  Miss Julia snacked on a sugar cookie and some apple juice.

At this point, she was ready to go home and we walked back to the car. On our way to meme’s house she ooo’ed and aahhh’ed at the Christmas lights strung about town.  She had a good time, and I had a blast having just me and Miss Julia time.

I’ll have to check that out next year. Sounds like fun. The big Tallahassee Winter Fest is so meh, IMHO.

We never go to the Tallahassee one. The best in the area IMHO is Thomasville’s Victorian Christmas. Ours is really small, but it is cool because you run into a ton of people you know.

Oooh good tip on T’ville. Winter Festival is brutal, always the same night as the ACCCG. #GoACC
