Christmas Day 2012

December 25, 2012

Santa and his elves must have worked overtime last night, because when the kids woke up this morning he had visited our house and left all sorts of presents! Mason woke up first and wandered into the living room to see his easel and paint set. He ran into the bedroom and woke up Miss Julia and meme. They came into the living room next and Jules discovered her vanity chock full of ma-tup (make-up).

What ensued next was a whirlwind of wrapping paper, bows, and cardboard boxes as presents were opened. Julia and Mason were swimming in gifts. Julia was enthralled with her vanity complete with mini-hairdryer and straightening iron. Mason loved his super hero masks and made me put on each of them while he raced around the room battling invisible bad guys. Meme even got into the act, donned the Ironman mask, and did the arm cross. Impressive.

Since we were still stuffed with fish from the prior night we skipped breakfast and went straight to mimosas.  Becky and Charlotte enjoyed them while I prepped the turkey, which had brined overnight, for the oven.  While the kids played we made the side dishes and welcomed Aunt Charlotte and Uncle Bub to the house.  Charlotte showed our Charlotte how to use her new iPhone while Julia fawned over Uncle Bub.

Becky’s daddy and Uncle Mike eventually arrived bearing more gifts for the kids.  While waiting for the 25 pound turkey to cook we drank beers, ate various appetizers and chatted.  Becky was in heaven with both her mom and dad being at our house for Christmas.  The kids loved all of the attention.  I was thrilled to have a house full of people.

After dinner the kids played outside some and Mason got to use his Spider-Man arm shooter. He covered one of the front crepe myrtles with blue silly string while his Meme looked on and encouraged him.  He was proud of his work.  Steve and Peyton stopped by early in the evening and brought the kids even more gifts.  Mason got a Hotwheels race track, which turned out to be his favorite present, while Miss Julia got a Cinderella doll and dress set.  She was in heaven!

The rest of the night passed with Mason and I racing cars to see which one was the fastest while Miss Julia sat in my lap and painted me with ma-tup.  We had a great Christmas! It was so nice seeing Charlotte and Bub.  I loved having Mitch, Charlotte and Uncle Mike around and so did Becky.  The kids had the best day because they were doted on and surrounded by love.
