2013: A Very Subdued New Year’s Day

On New Year’s Day we usually make a pot of black eyed peas, another of collards, a ham and some cornbread.  This year, with our refrigerator bursting at the seams and our counters full of food we made none of it.  Instead, we sat around the house, picking off leftovers and playing with the kids.  Our minds were on other things with tomorrow funeral dominating our thoughts.  It was just an odd day and had no sense of celebration around it.  Welcome 2013, I hope you get better with age.
